Description: |
Althea is a 1987 Cabo Rico 38 with a large main salon, king size V berth forward, and quarter berth aft. She is cutter rigged and ready to go cruising with many custom features and upgrades including a 2003 Yanmar 56 hp engine, Dometic 16,000 btu AC, Adler-Barber refrigeration with freezer (2006), and Force Ten gimbaled stove with oven (2018).
Althea is one of the best-built cruising boats in her class. The main salon is larger than standard, with a bulkhead mounted table to provide a full double berth on starboard and single to port. Plenty of clever storage - every latch and hook is thoughtfully placed and carefully crafted. This boat is solidly made, comfortable in all kinds of weather, sails like a dream, and is easy to anchor, moor and dock.
Teak cockpit was removed and reglassed in 2010; Kiwigrip applied 2019, fresh bottom paint 2019, brightwork refinished in 2021. Refrigerator has been insulated, all cabin lights replaced with warm LED energy-saving bulbs and fixtures, and solar panels (installed 2019) usually have batteries recharged by 11am. VHF cable, AIS receiver, Garmin GPS replaced and/or installed, LED light-sensing anchor light installed, and Balmar alternator installed 2020 (comes with spare).
Engine was replaced in 2003 and has just over 2000 hours. No problems and well-maintained. Primary anchor spade, 100 ft chain; secondary anchor is plow. New anchor bridle 2022. Dinghy is AB with small anchor included.
