Description: |
Lovingly rebuilt and maintained (17 years) classic T. Harrison Butler cutter, Tradewind, for sale to her new family of fellow wooden boat enthusiasts.
Only 6 yachts in history have been built to the Harrison Butler Bogle Design. This design was first drawn by Dr. Harrison Butler in 1933 for the Little Ship Club designing competition.
Designed on the Metacentric Principal of hull balance, the Bogle has proved to be nearly a perfectly balanced hull, which allows her to sail in a straight line at any angle of heel. Bogles are a joy to sail, light on the helm, stand up well to their canvas, and are dry, buoyant, and very capable cruisers.
Upgrades to Tradewind include: New beta diesel 2015 with 50 hours of engine use; tanbark mainsail (2013); new frames, deck, transom and interior. She is ruggedly built with yellow Pine copper riveted to white oak, fir decks, teak cabin sides and trim and sitka spruce spars. Tradewind is set up for single-handed sailing, with a monitor wind vane. There is one main bunk, with a working head.
A recent purchase of a large farm property on the coast of Maine will take the majority of our time and energy, leaving no hope for long, deep water passage making any time in the near future. As the sale of this boat is due simply to a life-style change, and not for lack of love for her, I would consider a trade for a day sailer of equal value. Consideration will be given to sincere and serious inquiries only. |
